The Resistance of Living Organisms to Digestion by Pepsin or Trypsin

نویسنده

چکیده

1. Pepsin and trypsin are quickly removed from solution by dead organisms. They are not able to penetrate into living organisms. 2. Trypsin injected into a living Amoeba results in the death and disintegration of the cell.

The comparative resistance to pepsin of six naturally occurring trypsin inhibitors.

The wide-spread distribution of trypsin inhibitors throughout the vegetable and animal kingdoms (1) makes elucidation of their physiological function of great interest. From this point of view, resistance to peptic digestion becomes an important property, since only an inhibitor resistant to pepsin is likely to produce any physiological effect when ingested by a normal animal. The soy bean inhi...

Susceptibility of sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) peel proteins to digestive enzymes

Sweet potato proteins have been shown to possess antioxidant and antidiabetic properties in vivo. The ability of a protein to exhibit systemic effects is somewhat unusual as proteins are typically susceptible to digestive enzymes. This study was undertaken to better understand how digestive enzymes affect sweet potato proteins. Two fractions of industrially processed sweet potato peel, containi...

Angiotensin I-converting Enzyme Inhibitory Activities of Porcine Skeletal Muscle Proteins Following Enzyme Digestion

Inhibitory activities against angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) of enzymatic hydrolysates of porcine skeletal muscle proteins were investigated. Myosin B, myosin, actin, tropomyosin, troponin and water-soluble proteins extracted from pork loin were digested by eight kinds of proteases, including pepsin, α-chymotrypsin, and trypsin. After digestion, hydrolysates produced from all proteins sh...

Casein phosphopeptides from casein micelles by successive digestion with pepsin and trypsin.

When milk is ingested, casein micelles will be successively digested by pepsin in the stomach and trypsin in the intestine. Therefore, we digested casein micelles successively with pepsin at pH 4.0 and trypsin at pH 7.0, and recovered casein phosphopeptides (CPP) as CPP-calcium phosphate (CP) complexes. The CPP-CP complexes contained 248 mg of calcium/g peptides and 175 mg of inorganic phosphor...

Intracellular Characterization of Bean Yellow Mosaic Virus-induced Inclusions by Differential Enzyme Digestion

The composition of crystalline inclusions and dense bands in cells of broad bean leaves infected with bean yellow mosaic virus was studied by differential enzymatic digestion. Frozen thick sections were prefixed in glutaraldehyde and exposed to proteinases and nucleases, after which ultrathin sections were prepared for electron microscopy. Examination revealed that the crystals were completely ...
